This New Year Choose Solutions over Resolutions

It’s that time of year again. The indulgence of the holidays is behind us, yet the aftermath lingers. Many of us may notice the added weight, whether physically or as post-celebration blues. Often that translates into resolutions, promises, and oaths for getting on track, making changes, losing weight, exercising more, and so on. We are revved up and ready to go in January but come February and March our resolve dwindles. By April, old habits have crept back in, and we are in full default mode by May.

Our answer to that is to step further into bad habits to distract ourselves or numb out. Some of us eat or drink more, exercise less, and pass the time streaming movies or consumed by social media. Others yo-yo through various diets – restricting and depriving more while eating less. Regardless of our path, the end result is the same – failure. The frustration of failing leaves us feeling deflated, resigned, and even hopeless. And the further we travel down the rabbit hole, the harder we must work to climb up.

Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results. So, this January, stop making resolutions and start finding solutions.
